2011 Canada Winter Games Rosters Announced

Hockey Alberta has announced the Team Alberta U16 Male and Team Alberta U18 Female rosters that will represent the province at the 2011 Canada Winter Games February 11-27 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“This is an opportunity that very few hockey players get to experience,” said Hockey Alberta President, Annie Orton. “It’s a privilege to wear the Team Alberta jersey and represent the province. We know the players on both these teams will take great pride in this and represent Alberta with honour, class and good sportsmanship.”

Team Alberta alumni Jordan Eberle and Devan Dubnyk were on hand to share their Canada Winter Games experiences and welcome the new comers to Team Alberta.

"Winning a gold medal at the Canada Winter Games is something that is still fresh in my mind and something I will never forget," said Devan Dubnyk, who now stops rubber for the Edmonton Oilers.

“We are very excited about this group of players,” said Team Alberta U16 male Head Coach, Trevor Keeper. “We have a lot of speed up front, lots of size on the back end and two solid goaltenders which is a combination we believe will give us the best chance for success against the top players of this age group from across the country.”

“Each one of our players should be very proud for making Team Alberta,” said Team Alberta U18 Female Head Coach, Howie Draper. “We have a foundation of talent built around speed that will allow us to compete with the best of the best in female hockey.”

The Canada Winter Games is similar to the Olympics as it is a multi-sport competition and features a cultural component. The Canada Winter Games occur every four years.

At the past five Canada Winter Games, Team Alberta Male has captured two Gold Medals (1999, 2003), two Silver Medals (1991, 1995) and one Bronze Medal (2007). Team Alberta Female won Gold in 1991 and Bronze in 1999 while finishing in 9th place in 2007.
