Coaching Para Hockey
Para hockey is open to both male and female able-bodied and disabled players of all ages. It is a sport that everyone can play. The program is divided into Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels. The para hockey season runs from October through April. Our complete Para Hockey Coaching Resource Guide is available for download.
Para hockey clubs must ensure that all teams and/or programs meet the requirements outlined in the chart below by November 15 of the current season.
Once the certification deadline passes, any team / program that does not meet the required certifications for their team officials will be notified that they are ineligible to participate until they have obtained the proper certifications.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Respect in Sport – Activity Leader: Must be completed prior to registration to a team. Valid certification must be in place to participate in on-ice activities. Must renew every four years.
November 15: Deadline for team officials to have qualifications complete (except Respect in Sport – see above). Team is ineligible to complete after this date if requirements are not fulfilled.
Assistant Coaches: Highly recommend to obtain training of what is required for head coaches.
2023 Para Kick-Off Coach Clinic: Hockey Alberta is hosting a para specific Coach 2-Coach Level course September 10, 2023.
Para hockey coaches are welcome to register for and attend any stand-up hockey clinics offered.
