Hockey Alberta’s Spring Showcase continues on Thursday as the 2022 Alberta Challenge gets underway in Red Deer. Six teams, comprised of 120 of the province’s top 2007 and 2008-born female athletes, are taking to the ice at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre from Thursday to Sunday.

Hockey Alberta has selected the 120 U15 female and 160 U13 male players who will be participating in the 2022 Alberta Challenge and Prospects Cup. The six-team Alberta Challenge tournament takes place May 5-8, and the eight-team Prospects Cup takes place May 12-15, both at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in Red Deer. Hockey Alberta has been working diligently with Hockey Canada over the past few months to ensure an efficient and positive registration experience for coaches entering clinics this fall. As with any new program, the new HCR 3.0 system has come with a few setbacks during the initiation process. We are currently working through those setbacks and hope to have clinic registration ready in the next couple of weeks.

The Hockey Alberta Foundation has been accepted as a participating charity in the Birdies for Kids program, presented by AltaLink. Within this fundraising program, Hockey Alberta Foundation will receive 100 per cent of every donation accepted on its behalf and allows for additional funding of up to 50 per cent of the original donation.

NORTHSTARS CARES AND HOCKEY ALBERTA FOUNDATION TEAM UP TO SUPPORT HEROS HOCKEY

The Calgary Northstars U15 Players and their families have accepted a challenge to raise $10,000 for the SuperHEROS Program for the upcoming 2021-22 hockey season. This money will allow them to put another team on the ice from their existing wait list. The team, along with the help of The Hockey Alberta Foundation are organizing an online auction that will run the month of February 2021.

COVID-19 UPDATE - NOVEMBER 12

The Government of Alberta today announced a mandatory two-week pause on indoor group fitness classes and team sport activities. The pause applies to Edmonton and surrounding areas, Calgary and surrounding areas, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray and Red Deer.
