Hockey Alberta Pathways
Project AB is a five-part YouTube docuseries following the journey of Team Alberta’s male and female hockey programs — from summer selection camp to the Canada Winter Games. The series goes behind the scenes with the players, coaches and staff who make Team Alberta possible, capturing the pressure, sacrifice, preparation, and pride that comes with representing the province.
Along the way, Project AB explores the Hockey Alberta pathway, the communities and leagues that develop these athletes, and the journey from aspiring player to Team Alberta representative.
Episode 1 — “Pressure is Privilege”
The journey begins at Summer Camp, where Alberta’s top male and female players come together with one goal: earn the opportunity to represent their province. With roster spots on the line, “Pressure is Privilege” captures the intensity, emotion, uncertainty, and determination of the selection process — giving viewers an inside look at where the Team Alberta journey begins.

September is Concussion Awareness Month, an important reminder of the role we all play in recognizing, responding to, and reducing the impact of concussions in hockey.
As part of registration each season, players, coaches, and officials are required to acknowledge Hockey Canada’s concussion waivers and complete the mandatory concussion awareness learning. These requirements help ensure everyone entering the season has a shared understanding of concussion safety.
Concussion awareness goes beyond completing a requirement. Knowing how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a suspected concussion, taking them seriously, and understanding what to do next helps create safer hockey environments. When in doubt, remove the participant from play and follow the appropriate assessment and return-to-sport process.

EDMONTON & RED DEER – Hockey Canada and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have announced the schedule for the IIHF World Junior Championship 2027, which is set for Dec. 26, 2026-Jan. 5, 2027, in Edmonton and Red Deer.
“In partnership with the IIHF and our incredible event partners, we are excited to unveil the schedule for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship that will be played on Canadian ice for the first time in two years,” said Dean McIntosh, senior vice-president of revenue, fan experience and community impact with Hockey Canada. “With a new hockey season upon us and just over 90 days until the puck drops on Boxing Day, we look forward to fans from across Canada and around the world in coming to Edmonton and Red Deer to cheer on the best junior hockey players this holiday season.”
In the preliminary round, Canada, Czechia, Latvia, Norway and Switzerland will compete in Group B at Rogers Place in Edmonton, while Finland, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States will play in Group A at the Marchant Crane Centrium in Red Deer.
The World Juniors 2027 kicks off on Boxing Day with Czechia facing Norway at 12 p.m. MT, Sweden taking on Finland at 2:30 p.m. MT, Canada matching up against Switzerland at 5 p.m. MT and the United States playing Germany at 7:30 p.m. MT.
Following games against Latvia on Dec. 28 and Norway on Dec. 29, Canada will take on Czechia on Dec. 31 to wrap up preliminary-round play in Edmonton, marking the first time the teams have faced off on New Year’s Eve since the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ostrava and Trinec, Czechia.
The relegation game and quarterfinals will take place on Jan. 2 before the tournament shifts exclusively to Rogers Place for the semifinals on Jan. 4 and the medal games on Jan. 5. All games will be broadcast on TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada.
More than 80,000 fans signed up for the World Juniors 2027 Priority Draw for a chance to purchase tournament ticket packages and access a pre-sale for individual tickets that begins on Sept. 23. Limited individual tickets will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. MT/12 p.m. ET on Sept. 25 at HockeyCanada.ca/Tickets. Pending availability, a limited quantity of Edmonton ticket packages may be available for purchase.
The IIHF World Junior Championship 2027 represents a partnership between Hockey Canada, the IIHF, OEG Sports & Entertainment, the Red Deer Rebels, Hockey Alberta, the cities of Edmonton and Red Deer, and the Province of Alberta, which made an $11 million commitment in February 2024 to host events in communities throughout the province.
The list of communities that will host pre-tournament games, along with the Road to the World Juniors pre-tournament schedule, will be announced in the coming months.
