The selection process started with A Spring Selection Camp in May where a combined total of 80 athletes met to compete for one of 47 spots at Provincial Camp in July. Following Provincial Camp, the coaching staff was faced with some extremely difficult decisions to narrow the talented field down to 27 players.

“Provincial Camp gave us the chance to really see what these girls can do,” said Team Alberta Female Coordinator, Mike Kraichy. “Making these types of decisions is never easy, but we’re confident we’ve selected a solid mix of players – who have the best chance of representing Team Alberta.”

The short listed players will compete at an elite female tournament against CIS and other provincial teams September 23 - 25 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Following the tournament, the short listed players will then be scouted with their club teams until Team Alberta names its 20 player roster that will compete at the 2011 National Women’s Under 18 Hockey Championships, November 2 - 6, 2011 in Saguenay, Quebec.

The Championships bring together the top U18 female players from across Canada.  Teams participating include a combination of provincial and regional teams: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, two teams from Ontario, Quebec, and Team Atlantic (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador).

U18 Female is the final stage of the Team Alberta Female Program and one of the initial stages that Hockey Canada uses to help identify players for the National Program.
