RED DEER - Hockey Alberta is launching the Hockey Alberta Player Wellness Pilot for the 2026–27 season, exploring a new approach to player education, wellness and performance through the EAS online platform.
The Player Wellness pilot will invite teams at the U13 level and older to participate in an ongoing approach to player support, providing athletes, coaches, and parents with access to wellness check-ins, educational content, and practical resources throughout the hockey season.
Rather than relying solely on one time courses or educational sessions, the Player Wellness Pilot is designed to support regular check-ins and provide resources that reflect participants’ needs as the season progresses.
Players can access age appropriate check-ins and personalized tools related to areas such as mental wellness, confidence, focus, sleep, stress, recovery, and healthy habits. These resources are intended to help athletes build self-awareness and navigate factors that can affect both their hockey experience and overall well-being.
The platform also provides support for coaches. When at least five players on a team have completed a check-in, coaches can access anonymous, team-level themes to better understand what may be emerging within their team. Practical tools, strategies and educational resources can then help coaches support players through practices, conversations and the overall team environment.
“Hockey is an important part of so many Albertans’ lives and the strength of our hockey community means players and families naturally look to the people around them for support. We see that as a positive, but we also recognize that coaches and teams can’t be expected to have all the answers. Through this pilot, we hope to provide practical tools and resources that make supporting player wellness a more natural part of the hockey experience, while taking some of the pressure off players, coaches, and families rather than adding to it. We’re excited to learn alongside our teams and see how this initiative can grow.” Carlia Schwab, Manager of EDI and Safe Sport at Hockey Alberta.
Through the pilot, Hockey Alberta aims to explore how player wellness, education and performance support can become a more natural part of the hockey experience. By providing players and parents with practical resources, and coaches with anonymous team-level insights, the pilot is designed to help teams better recognize and respond to everyday challenges that can affect player wellbeing and performance. Hockey Alberta also hopes to understand how these tools can support players, coaches and families throughout the season without adding to the demands already placed on teams.
I have seen how much goes into helping a player succeed, and it goes well beyond what happens on the ice. Players need to know they have people in their corner. I am excited about this Partnership. Hockey Alberta is making player wellness a Priority.
Paul Coffey, Co-Owner EAS, Hockey Hall of Famer and four-time Stanley Cup champion
We’re excited to partner with Hockey Alberta, an organization showing real leadership by taking a proactive approach to wellness. This partnership extends support beyond the player to families, coaches and the entire organization. Together, we are helping build a hockey community where everyone has the support they need to thrive, both on and off the ice.
Jason Campeau, CEO, EAS
The pilot also provides an opportunity to gather feedback directly from participants and evaluate whether the platform offers value across different hockey environments. There is no cost to participate. Hockey Alberta is inviting U13 and older teams to take part in the 2026–27 pilot, with space available for up to 200 teams across Alberta. A limited number of spots remain available, and interested teams are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest to be considered for the pilot. Those selected will be contacted to confirm participation and expectations before onboarding.
For more information, contact Hockey Alberta. Coaches or team representatives can submit an Expression of Interest using the link below.
