2013 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup

With two wins at the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in the tournament’s three year history, Team Alberta came into the 2013 version of the Challenge Cup with some big shoes to fill, and did so handily.

After advancing straight to the gold medal game with a perfect 3-0 round-robin record, Team Alberta captured its third Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup title with a 4-2 win over Team BC.

Forward Sam Steel led the way for Team Alberta, as the 2nd overall pick (Regina Pats) of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft scored the game-winner, and had an assist on the insurance goal en-route to the win. Alberta goaltender Stuart Skinner needed just 16 saves on 18 shots for the win.

Steel, along with defenceman Kale Clague were chosen to represent Team Alberta on the tournament’s all-star team.
