Hockey Alberta is seeking a talented and energetic professional to join the organization as our Manager, Hockey Development. This position is part of the Development team within the Hockey Department and focuses on providing quality service to players, coaches, membership, and stakeholders of Hockey Alberta. This position is responsible for managing specific programs, focusing on player development programming, MHA player development service and standards and coach education programs and initiatives.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
General Duties
- Responsible for the delivery of organizational Objectives and Key results (OKRs) as assigned.
- Plan and control assigned budgets and resources for development plans.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination of resources through collaboration with other employees, participating in the department business planning process.
- Participate in and/or lead and implement ad-hoc committees as assigned.
- Engage with other business areas, and ensure collaboration amongst staff to consult on processes, projects, initiatives, etc.
Player Development Camp Programming
- Implement a deliberate player programming plan that focuses on specific content for the age and level of players.
- Organize and implement, at minimum, six player development programs for U11-U18 players.
- Establish partnerships that will aid in delivery of programs and education/training for players.
- Recruit the top skill instructors & coaches in Alberta to support the on-ice delivery.
Player Development Plan
- Build a network of industry leaders to learn from and utilize for development initiatives.
- Monitor skills research and development based on trends in the game.
- Organize and implement a skills coach appreciation and recognition strategy.
- Create resources as needed focusing on deficiencies in player development.
- Implement online learning initiatives, website content, and direct to skills instructor communications.
- Implement a communication plan to inform about player development resources.
- Deliver a Skills Coach Seminar to educate MHA leads and coaches.
- Encourage the top skills instructors & coaches in Alberta to apply for the Hockey Canada Certification Seminar.
Hockey Alberta Coach Development Plan
- Implement the NCCP program for assigned regions.
- Organize and implement the Future Leaders Development Program.
- Organize and implement coach development plans for assigned levels of hockey.
- Support continuing education tracking.
- Support coaching website content and direct to coach communications.
- Create surveys as needed to acquire information from coaches to better support their development.
MHA Player Service and Standards
- Provide MHA service and support by being both proactive and reactive to their player development needs.
- Implement MHA Player Development Standards with focus on associations creating and implementing their own player development plan.
- Implement a recruitment strategy to identify and train volunteers as needed to support player development.
- Provide administrative support to managers as required.
- Provide support to the Membership area of the Department, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Sport Administration, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a relevant field.
- 3+ years’ experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in a professional office setting.
- Knowledge and experience in areas of office administration or other related disciplines, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet Tools/Web applications is an asset.
- Communication and organizational skills are essential to work in this busy “Team” environment.
- Ability to lead, communicate professionally, be creative, facilitate change, and build relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with individuals positively and diplomatically.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize accordingly and/or multi-task to meet various deadlines.
- Ability to develop and implement yearly budgets and abide by policies and procedures.
- Understanding of the business of sport.
- Experience playing and coaching hockey is required.
- Valid driver’s license required; access to personal transportation is considered an asset.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Based on Hockey Alberta’s Compensation Policy, the salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 (relative to the successful applicant’s education, skills, and experience).
- Upon completion of the first six-months of employment, you’ll be enrolled in Hockey Alberta’s comprehensive benefits plan.
- Two weeks vacation annually, with incremental increases based on years of service as per Hockey Alberta’s Time Off Policy.
