Head Coach U15 & U18 AA Female

Primary Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of the Head Coach position is to lead a quality and sustainable AA youth ice hockey program for the North Central Impact Female Hockey Program.

 

Program Objectives to be Completed: 

1. Ensure the NCI female ice hockey programs organizational structure is upheld.

2. Recruit players and organize and operate successful training camps and seasonal teams. 

3. Establish relationships within the local hockey community, program alumni and the community at large to grow the NCI program and the female game itself. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Head Coach Role will encompass the following primary responsibilities:

  • Build a culture of excellence and continue to build the NCI brand while leading a AA female team and promoting female ice hockey.  

  • Support the growth of the program through coaching, program management, athlete support, recruiting, communication and community outreach. 

  • Be a spokesperson for female hockey, promoting and enhancing the image of the NCI program both within the community and the AFHL. 

  • Create an environment conducive to the development of youth athletes in a competitive sport setting and lead the NCI program in a manner that is consistent with the values of Leduc Minor Hockey and in accordance with the associations Code of Conduct.

  • Respect the annual operational and planning cycles in order to ensure appropriate support and resources for this program. 

  • Be strongly committed to fostering diverse, inclusive and positive environments within the team and community, acting as a source of excellence, cultural enrichment and social strength.

  • Developing, with the coaching staff, tools to realize the achievement of the program objectives including: training and practice plans for the team and individual athletes, game strategies in preparation for each competition.

  • Regular evaluation of progress through the review of statistics and other feedback. 

  • Coordinating the responsibilities of the coaching staff and undertaking consistent review of ability to meet expectations.

  • Further identifying team needs and submitting requests to the level director or designate

  • Ensure athletes understand and adhere to the athlete code of conduct for the team and association.

  • In partnership with the level director, actively recruit potential athletes to the NCI program. 

  • Follow process for conducting regular athlete development meetings by providing coaching support over the course of the year including entrance, mid-season, and exit.

  • Participate in community outreach efforts on behalf of the NCI program.

  • Develop seasonal goals and communicate to the Level Director prior to the start of the season and once approved, to the team staff as soon as possible thereafter.

  • Develop and communicate practice plans 

  • Oversee all team practices and games. Up to three practices and two games per week in season. 

  • Attend and provide oversight of all team activities including grassroots development initiatives, off-ice education & training, team building and other NCI required programs.

 

Qualifications - Minimum Required Education and Experience:  

  • Completion of High School (completion of university/college or trade school an asset)

  • NCCP Coaching Certification 

    • Hockey Canada - Development 1

    • Hockey Canada - Instructional Checking

  • Recent head coach experience will be considered a strong asset. 

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following qualifications skills for this role:  

  • Experience coaching at a high level such as AA, AAA provincial, national or university/ college 

  • Leadership experience

  • Organization development and operational skills

  • Excellent communication skills  

  • Experience building and managing people to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team; most importantly managing the athletes in terms of their academics, athletics and dealing with their personal issues – building future leaders  

  • Experience in building and maintaining successful programs

  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders  

  • Knowledge of both youth sport environments and the hockey system in Alberta

  • Demonstrated expertise and/or knowledge in the recruitment of athletes  

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team  

  • Integrity – a role model for athletes and coaching staff. A mentor and motivator. 

  • Ability to foster relationships 

  • Superior interpersonal skills including a strong athlete centered focus 

  • Superior ability to listen, consult and implement decisions  

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
