Head Coach
Position Overview
Strathcona Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Head Coach for its U15 AA team. This position is ideal for a coach committed to player development, team culture, and competitive excellence within a structured minor hockey environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead all team practices, games, and team activities
- Develop and implement season and practice plans
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment
- Focus on individual skill development and team systems
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and SMHA leadership
- Work collaboratively with assistant coaches, trainers, and team staff
Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience at the competitive (Tier 1 or higher) level preferred
- Strong knowledge of hockey systems, skill development, and age-appropriate coaching techniques
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Certification requirements (or willingness to obtain prior to season start):
- Hockey Canada Coach Certification (Development 1 or higher preferred)
- Respect in Sport (Activity Leader)
- Valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
Assets
- Experience working with elite or high-performance youth athletes
- Background in player development programs
- Strong understanding of team culture building and athlete mentorship
