Global Girls Game

The Global Girls Game is an International Ice Hockey Federation initiative to unite the hockey community by having players from around the globe play in the same game. A cumulative score is kept around the world between Team White and Team Blue with a winner being declared after all games have been completed. Two teams comprised of participants from across Canada will compete for Team White and Team Blue in the Canadian portion of the Global Game. The Global Game embodies the spirit of enjoyment, teamwork, and collaborating with those from diverse backgrounds.

2017

Samantha Boutin of St. Albert and Jasmine Rodak of Calgary were selected out of more than 25 applicants to attend the international event. Boutin is a 14 year-old forward with the St. Albert Bantam A Blades. Rodak, also 14, is currently a goaltender for the Bantam A Hawks in Calgary.


2018

Kamyrn Oddan of Clandonald and Emilie Morin of Enoch were selected out of more than 25 applicants to attend the international event. Two female hockey players from each province are headed to the Global Game, which will see 37 IIHF member organizations hold events across the globe this weekend. Oddan is a 15 year-old forward with the Vermilion Female Bantam B Tigers. Morin is a 13 year-old defender, who currently plays for the Edmonton Bantam A Sabres.


2019

Sixteen outstanding young Albertans will hit the ice in Calgary on Saturday for the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Global Girls Hockey Game. In addition to the game itself, athletes will participate in skills clinics, visit the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, and take in presentations from guest speakers.

2020

Two of Alberta’s Bantam Female players got a once in a lifetime experience while participating in the Global Girls’ Game this past weekend. Bryn Weinkauf (Daysland) and Emily Harty (St. Albert) arrived in St. John’s on Friday to take in the Global Girls’ Game activities.


2023

Leduc Minor Hockey is hosting Alberta’s segment of the Global Game in Wetaskiwin as the U11 Leduc Roughnecks take on Westakiwin WE401F at 1 pm on Saturday, February 18 at the Civic Centre.

In Wetaskiwin, Hockey Canada has provided jerseys for each team featuring numbers worn by members of the 2022 Women’s World Hockey Championship team. Prior to the game, the U11 players will meet and mingle with the North Central Impact U15 AA team in the Alberta Female Hockey League. The Impact also will join the Roughnecks for pre-game warm-up.

Leduc is taking the IIHF Global Game a step further and engaging all levels of its female program to make it an unforgettable experience. Following the U11 game, the Impact will host Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs in an AFHL tilt, with the U11 players cheering on their new friends with cupcakes and chocolate milk to celebrate females in the sport. Events in Wetaskiwin will wrap up with a U18B female game between Leduc and Wetaskiwin.


2024

Twelve games are taking place from coast to coast in Canada, including Alberta’s segment which is being hosted by Stettler Minor Hockey Association on February 17. In Canada, teams from each game will be identified as Team White (home team) and Team Red (away team). The event kicked off on February 9 with a Rivalry Series game between Canada and the USA. Hockey Canada is providing players with jerseys, toques and helmet stickers as part of the event. Stettler is also taking the IIHF Global Game a step further and engaging multiple levels of its female program to make it an unforgettable experience. Stettler’s U11 Tier 2 Blue team precedes the Global Girls Game event with a game against Camrose Red at 11:15 a.m, while the U18 Tier 1 Storm play game one of their RMFHL playdowns against the Lethbridge Cyclones at 4:15 p.m.
