The U16 Male Program is the third stage of the development and identification process to select a roster for Team Alberta to compete at either the WHL Cup or the Canada Winter Games, beginning with the Alberta Cup. The Games are held every four years, with the last event taking place in 2019 in Red Deer. Players in the U16 Male program will be challenging for the opportunity to compete on one of the three teams that represent Canada each year at the World U17 Hockey Challenge.

Alberta Cup

Due to the AHS COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time the Alberta Cup was to be held in April, the event was cancelled for 2021.

Summer selection camp, normally held in July was moved to August after AHS restrictions were lifted. The week long camp was broken into three, two-day camps divided by region. South Region August 3-4, Central Region August 5-6 and North Region August 7-8. The camp is the first step in the identification process for the WHL Cup, slated for October of 2021. Following summer camp, a select number of athletes will move on to a Provincial Camp held September 17-19. From the U16 Provincial Camp, a shortlist is set, with the players scouted with their club teams prior to final roster decisions on the 20 players selected to comprise Team Alberta.
