Position Summary |
Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics is hiring for a Head Coach, Queen’s Hockey. Coaches of Red Deer Polytechnic athletic teams are responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of their players. They are responsible for all aspects of leadership, coaching, and guidance during actual competition, and general leadership, guidance, and supervision outside of training or competition times. The coach is co-responsible for all promotions and public relations specific to their team and communicates as required with external media. This contract may be renewable at the conclusion of each academic year.

Position Responsibilities |
The Head Coach, Women’s Hockey will report to the Manager, Athletics & Student Life with respect to all aspects of the coaching role, responsibilities include: Coaching
- Maintaining an active, focused recruiting plan.
- Designing and executing a Yearly Training Plan (YTP) program including, on and off the court sessions, scheduling appropriate competitions, and team building.
- Utilizing appropriate tactical and technical strategies during competition.
- Ability to put coaching theory into practice.
- Analyzing student-athlete performance and providing effective feedback.
- Providing appropriate mental and physical conditioning tactics for student-athletes.
- Fulfill all mandatory coaching education and safe sport training requirements
Personnel
- Recruiting and supervising teams personnel such as assistant coaches, team managers, etc.
- Establishing a culture that ensures equal and fair treatment of all his/her team members.
- Establishing a channel of communication between self and players, self and the Manager, Athletics & Student Life, and players (captains) and the Manager, Athletics & Student Life.
- Prepare a self-evaluation at the conclusion of each athletic year, with such evaluation based on input from players, colleagues, and others as solicited.
- Establishing team practices that promote the philosophy of excellence in academics, athletics, and community engagement.
Administrative
- Supporting and acting in accordance with the strategic direction and initiatives as they relate to fundraising, general promotions, budget management, appropriate administrative responsibilities, and community and alumni relations.
- Ensuring the appropriate academic standards of the student-athletes are monitored and met.
- Working cooperatively with staff from across various departments/areas to enhance the delivery of their program. This includes but is not limited to Sport Facilities, Marketing & Communications, and Development and Alumni Relations.
- Submitting annual non-conference budgets as requested, and responsible for keeping expenditures within the finalized and approved budget.
- Having complete knowledge of all ACAC by-laws as well as Red Deer Polytechnic policies relating to their athletic program.
- Ensuring all team staff and members have full knowledge of all ACAC laws and Red Deer Polytechnic policies as appropriate.
- Attending all Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics Coaches Meetings, and ACAC coaches meetings as scheduled.

Required Qualifications |
- NCCP Certified Development 1
- Minimum of 2 years coaching at a college or senior competition level
- Strong organizational and effective time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong work ethic

- NCCP Certified High Performance 1
- Minimum of 3 years coaching female athletes at a college or senior competition level
