Safety

This four-hour online course provides a comprehensive introduction to key aspects of team safety, including: Injury recognition and management, Fair play code and code of ethics, rink safety protocols, and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) procedures.

By completing this training, your team’s Safety Person will gain the knowledge and confidence to serve as the primary resource for health, wellness, injury response, and safe Return to Play practices.

Level 1 certification is valid for three seasons from the date of completion, with all certifications expiring on September 1 of the third season. Once expired, individuals must either:

- Retake the online Level 1 course, or
- Apply for Level 2 status, provided they meet the requirements

Safety – Level 2

Individuals who have successfully completed the online Hockey Canada Safety Program – Level 1 and hold at least a Standard First Aid certification, or are qualified medical professionals, are eligible for Level 2 certification.

Level 2 extends the original expiry date of the Safety Program – Level 1 by up to three additional years. This extension is tied to the validity of the individuals medical training and may be renewed and re-submitted continuously, provided the medical certification remains current, for a maximum of three additional years.

Certification is based on 100 per cent completion of the online Hockey Canada Safety Program. There is no equivalency for this course.

The certification for this program is valid for a period of three (3) hockey seasons from the date of completion (expiring on September 1).

The Level 2 component of the Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP) is given to those who have completed the online Hockey Canada Safety Program - Level 1 and have a minimum of current Standard First Aid, or are medical professionals.

Each participant wanting to be recognized at Level 2 must provide proof of certification to the Hockey Alberta office. The participant will then be updated to Level 2 on their Hockey Canada record, and provided a record of their new level and expiry date, as long as their Hockey Canada Safety Program is valid at that time. This level will extend their HCSP certification to a maximum of six years, based on the expiry of the First Aid certificate.

The Level 2 component of the Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP) is given to those who have completed the Hockey Canada Safety Program - Level 1 and have a minimum of current Standard First Aid, or are medical professionals.

The participant will then be updated to Level 2 on their Hockey Canada record, and provided a record of their new level and expiry date, as long as their Hockey Canada Safety Program is valid at that time. This level will extend their HCSP certification to a maximum of six years, based on the expiry of the First Aid Certificate.
