2014 ATB Alberta Cup, April 24-27, Strathmore, AB

Calgary North ended Northeast’s two year run as championships, with a 5-4 victory over Team Northeast to become the 2014 ATB Alberta Cup champions.

Second period goals by Akito Hirose and Christopher Monden gave Calgary North a two-goal lead heading to the third period which would prove to be insurmountable. Monden second goal of the game, an empty-netter with just over a minute lefts to play would wind up being the game winning goal.

Calgary North found their way into the ’A’ final following one win and two ties in round robin play. They opened the tournament with a win over South, and then tied Edmonton South and Northwest. In the semi-finals, they beat Edmonton North to earn their berth in the Championship Game. Northeast was undefeated heading into the final game, having beat Calgary South, Edmonton North, and Central in the round robin and then defeating Edmonton South in the semi-final.
