2022 Future Leaders Development Program

Future Leaders Development Program is designed to develop and train post secondary students in the area of coaching. 

The 2022 Future Leaders program will run August 13th-14th in Red Deer. 

Selected Future Leaders will be trained and mentored on and off the ice through classroom sessions that include: skill development, leadership, team building and off ice training. Along with classroom sessions and tasks, Future Leaders will work with a mentor to plan and deliver on ice sessions for a Hockey Alberta skills camp. The Future Leaders development program helps to provide a base of enthusiastic coaches that will play an active role in Hockey Alberta programs and within their communities for years to come. 

Included in the Future Leaders Development weekend will be

  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Meals
  • Accommodation’s
  • Hockey Alberta Apparel

Following the weekend Future Leaders will have a post task assignment to complete in order to be considered for 1 of 10 scholarships.

Participants will earn professional development after full attendance and active participation in the two day event. The future leaders development program helps to provide a base of enthusiastic coaches that will play an active role in Hockey Alberta programs and within their communities for years to come.

Program Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently enrolled or accepted in post secondary 
  • Interested in coaching/teaching hockey 
  • Alberta resident

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who complete the 2022 scholarship criteria will be eligible for one of ten Hockey Alberta Foundation Award of Excellence in Leadership scholarship. Scholarships are only available to those selected students who are

  • Full attendance and active participation in the in person event on August 13th-14th
  • Completed the post task assignment by the deadline
  • Current/incoming to a post secondary institute
  • An Alberta resident (out of province students - 2 years residency/attendance of post secondary prior to the application date)
