SKILLS CAMP REFUND INFO (DUE TO COVID-19) >

Hockey Alberta, through its Regional Centres, operates specialized player-development skill camps throughout the year.

These camps are open to male and female athletes, although ages eligible for a specific camp may vary depending on the camp and/or location. Each camp is focused on developing specific individual and team skills, and follow the principles of the Long Term Player Development model adopted by Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada.

Every Hockey Alberta camp features:

ALBERTA BUILT Instruction: All instructors are Hockey Canada trained, and include Hockey Alberta staff, and WHL/ Team Alberta graduates.

ALBERTA BUILT Skills: Skills and tactics taught correspond to the Long Term Player Development model, and have been identified by hockey experts trained by Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta. The right skills at the right time for your child!

ALBERTA BUILT Locations: Camps are scheduled across the province, at arenas near you.

Female Elite Goalie Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Female Elite Goaltender Development Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program focused on elite level AAA, AA and Elite female goaltenders. The camp has 3:1 goaltender to instructor ratio to ensure maximum development opportunities for each goaltender.

Instructors include Hockey Alberta staff and several guest coaches with a wealth of knowledge in training and developing goaltenders. Players must apply to be accepted into this camp.

Typically runs: Spring (June).


Goalie Advancement Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Goaltender Advancement Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that introduces goaltenders to the skills, concepts and techniques necessary to play elite level Bantam and Midget hockey.

Each camp accepts 36 U14 goaltenders to learn on-ice skills, concepts and techniques to advance to the next level. As well, the camp incorporates classroom and off-ice instruction to support your goaltender’s development.

Goalie Skills Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Goaltender Skills Camp is an Alberta Built Skills weekend program that focuses on the mental and physical aspects of goaltending, and the development of goaltender specific skills through on-ice and off-ice sessions.

Typically runs: Spring (April)


Male Elite Goalie Camp 

Hockey Alberta’s Male Elite Goaltender Development Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program focused on elite level Bantam AAA and first-year Midget male goaltenders. The camp has 3:1 goaltender to instructor ratio to ensure maximum development opportunities for each goaltender.

Instructors include Hockey Alberta staff and several guest coaches with a wealth of knowledge in training and developing goaltenders.

Typically runs: Spring (June).

Small Area Games Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Small Area Games Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program where your child develops his/her individual skills and tactics in a fun and competitive environment. Small Area Games camps have fewer players involved in station drills, and special rules that ensure your child gets more puck touches and situational repetitions. These games improve a player’s ability to read, react and adapt to a given situation; improve their ability to handle a puck under extreme pressure and confinement; and improve their skating ability and edge work!

Typically runs: Spring (March-April).

Future Coaches

Hockey Alberta’s Future Coaches Program develops and trains U18 level male and female hockey players in the areas of coaching, skill instruction and leadership.

Through this two-day program, athletes are introduced to advanced coaching techniques, learn skill development to better their game, and gain leadership skills and confidence to join a team in a support coaching role next season!

Super Skills Summer Camp

The Hockey Alberta Super Skills Summer Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that allows athletes to prepare for the upcoming season through a variety of on and off ice sessions with top Hockey Alberta instructors and Group Leaders.

The camp will focus on individual skill development on and off the ice, through on-ice drills focused on skating, puck control, passing and shooting. Off-ice sessions will work on agility, balance and coordination through multi-sport and other training activities.

Typically runs: Summer (August).

Team Alberta U12 Skills Camp

Hockey Alberta’s U12 Skills Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that focuses on skill development, checking skills, and proper training techniques for your child. All participants learn about the Team Alberta program. There are also two sessions for goaltenders.

Typically runs: Spring (May/June).


Team Alberta/WHL Skills Camp

The Team Alberta/ WHL Skills Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that provides your child with the opportunity to learn from an impressive array of instructors, including instructors from the Western Hockey League. This is the sixth year for the event, which is co-hosted by Hockey Alberta and the WHL.

The camp focuses on skill development and proper training techniques and provides athletes with information about the Team Alberta process and the WHL.

Female Skills Development Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Female Skills Development Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that features some of the top female hockey and skills coaches in the area leading your female player through sessions that teach the skills required at the next levels.

The camp features a unique combination of on-ice skill development, off-ice development sessions, a multi-sport session, and a yoga session. The instructors are passionate about teaching and making sure the kids have lots of fun!

Typically runs: Summer (August).

POWER EDGE PRO Skill Development Camp

Power Edge Pro (PEP) is an on-ice player development system utilizing propriety equipment and training patterns. The system focuses on Reactive Countering Training™, engaging multiple motor skills simultaneously to develop a player’s performance. All patterns are completed while maintaining puck control and are designed to provide 5x as many repetitions as standard drill-based practices, leading to faster development of elite skills.

Typically runs: Year-round.

Alberta Cup Prep Camp

The Alberta Cup Prep Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that prepares players to attend an Alberta Cup regional camp.

This is one of two OFFICIAL Alberta Cup Prep Camps SANCTIONED by Hockey Alberta. Any camp advertised by any other group is not an official Alberta Cup Prep Camp Ensure you register for an official Alberta Cup Prep Camp.

The camp covers the drills used at Alberta Cup regional camp sessions, along with team tactics and team concepts.

Typically runs: One week before Alberta Cup tryouts (March).

Developing Defensemen Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Developing Defenseman Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that introduces your child to fundamental and advanced skills and tactics for defending. The camp includes a specific component on defensive techniques that will help your child understand the most effective way to use the stick and body when defending.

Typically runs: Spring (May).


Dynamic Shooting Camp

Hockey Alberta’s Dynamic Shooting Camp is an Alberta Built Skills program that helps your child learn the foundation techniques to develop a well-rounded shot selection and improved confidence and skills.

Many players get stuck utilizing only one or two different shots throughout their minor hockey experience and this can severely limit a player from reaching their full potential. The best shooters in the game release pucks quickly in any given situation, shooting off either foot, forehand or backhand in a variety of situations.

Typically runs: Spring (May).


Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey School

Hockey Alberta, in partnership with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Lethbridge Minor Hockey, is running an incredible Alberta Built Skills program for young athletes to learn from Hurricanes players and staff.

The school emphasizes skating, puck handling, passing and shooting using small area play, tactical and technical teaching from some of the best instructors in Alberta and instills the values of the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model.
