Alberta Development Model (AAA)
In 2002, at the direction of the Hockey Alberta Board of Directors, a committee was formed to develop a process to enable Alberta’s top hockey athletes to compete at the highest level in a fair and equitable manner.
The focus of the process deals with the elite system within Hockey Alberta and provides for the development of the elite athlete, reflecting an "Alberta Made Development Model".
The idea is to provide guidance and direction so that player opportunity and movement is done in recognition of the needs of the player and the teams involved. The guiding principle that has unanimous consensus is the agreement at all times for making responsible decisions and everyone will act in the best interest of the athlete’s ability to play at an elite level. It further recognizes and supports that each athlete has the right to consider all options.
The Alberta Development Model document is based on four (4) principles and uses these principles to create a system that better meets the needs of the athlete as they progress through the system of development. The document creates an improved development system providing a positive experience for all participants through improved communications and a better understanding of the principles.
