On October 25, 2011, Penguin Canada is releasing Thirty Years of the Game at Its Best, a fully-illustrated retrospective of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. The book contains a chapter for each of the last thirty years of World Junior Championships and is being published to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of the program that made Canada’s success at the games possible. Contributors to the book include Gare Joyce, Mike Babcock, Coach of the Detroit Red Wings and the Canadian Olympic Team, Toronto Star reporter Damien Cox, Frank Orr, Brendan Bell and more.

To coincide with the book’s release, Penguin Canada announced the ‘Gold Medal Hero’ contest. From mid-October through to the end of November, Canadians are encouraged to upload a short video telling Penguin Canada who made a difference in their hockey lives. Maybe it’s their mom who drove them to the rink every morning; their coach; their older brother; or their best friend. The contest is designed to capture the excitement of the World Junior Championships, while also recognizing and celebrating all the people, effort, and commitment behind the individuals who play the game. The grand prize is two tickets to the quarter, semi and final games of the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship in Calgary, along with a travel voucher and accommodations in Calgary. It’s a fantastic prize for any hockey fan, just in time for Christmas.
