The 46 players chosen to compete at the U17 Male Provincial Camp were scouted throughout the season and evaluated through Team Alberta Programs. The World U17 Hockey Challenge is the pinnacle event for an athlete in the Team Alberta Program and is the first stage of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence which in turn leads to the National Team Canada U18 and U20 Programs. Team Pacific combines the top 11 players from Alberta (identified, selected and developed through the team Alberta Program) and the top 11 players from British Columbia, who compete against four other Canadian Teams (West, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) and five other national teams from the USA, Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic and Finland.

The Team Alberta Program prepares athletes for this prestigious international event by preparing and exposing them to short term competition throughout the Team Alberta process. This development progression has led to a tradition of excellence as well as Team Pacific being a force to contend with year after year.
